Pastor James Travis: joined Calvary in October of 2009. He grew up in Adrian, MI. He graduated from Concordia College Ann Arbor with a degree in Biblical Languages and a Minor in Music (Organ and Tuba) in 1998. He then graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 2002 his Masters of Divinity degree. He served as pastor to Emmanuel Lutheran in Lake View Iowa prior to joining our congregation. Pastor Travis is married to Stacy Travis and has two children Isaac and Micah. Pastor and Stacy met while at an Iowa District West singles event in Carroll Iowa. Pastor is a strong advocate for biblical marriage and is glad to meet with couples preparing for marriage or going through difficulties. He is believes in biblical discipleship in the church and home. In other words, passing on Jesus to children, grandchildren, and training up the next generation of leaders in God's church. Stacy loves to play organ, piano, and guitar.

Associate Pastor Alex Smith - Alex Smith will be ordained and installed on July 14, 2024 at Calvary. He will serve in the areas of Youth, Education, & Family. He writes, "I am the second of three children to my parents, Willie and Diane Smith. I was born in 1996. I grew up in Denison, Iowa. My family has always been close. When I was a young boy, we almost always ate supper together as a family. My mom and dad, along with my brother and sister, have always supported my dream to be a pastor. When did I first find out that I wanted to be a pastor? I was young, roughly around 3rd or 4th grade age, going through school at Zion Lutheran School, the school attached to my home church. I remember sitting in church one Sunday and seeing my Pastors, Pastor David Sewing and Pastor Kurt Kaiser up in the chancel leading worship. I looked over at my mom and told her that I thought I wanted to be a pastor just like them when I grew up. Pastor Kaiser and Pastor Sewing caught wind of it, and they knew they had me. They began to mentor me to show me just how a pastor lived and acted.
When I am not at work in the church I enjoy being outdoors. Please let me know if you know of any good hiking or walking trails in the area. I also enjoy attending sporting events no matter the level: high school, college, or upper level. I also love being around people; I think that is one of the main reasons I like sports so much; you just get to be around people. You can ask Pastor Ryan or any of the people at my congregation in Carroll if one of the kids had a ballgame and I did not have anything going on for the church I was there. Some might have seen that as work, and that’s okay; I saw it as my time to relax, and I just happened to be with church members. I enjoyed doing that, and it brought me closer to them. Well, now you know more about your new Associate Pastor.

Calvary Supports Missions: Rev. Dr. Stephen Oliver (See: Oliver Family) and Iantha Scheiwe who serves Honk Kong with the Mission of Christ Network ((See: Scheiwe) with annual gifts. In addition Calvary gives 9% of our regular offerings to Iowa District West, who in turn sends about half to Synod for various causes. We give the other 1% locally to Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux's work to have Jesus shared in Spanish. The Rev. Paul Flo & Rev. Henry Henry Witte serve in these areas.
Teri Mevius has been the secretary at Calvary since 2019. She is responsible for all the church's communications such as the Sunday Bulletins and the Calvary Call newsletter.
